Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to rehearse for a group performance and perform to the required standard.It applies to musicians and vocalists in all genres who need to rehearse in a group prior to performances. In addition to knowing their repertoire and being able to perform to the required standard, they must also be disciplined to practise, arrive at rehearsals on time and collaborate with other members of the group. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:

access to appropriate instruments, equipment and rehearsal space

opportunities to rehearse.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.

Element: Prepare for rehearsals
  • Confirm rehearsal requirements and performance outcomes with relevant people
  • Confirm performance repertoire, materials and equipment required at rehearsals
  • Confirm that duration of rehearsals and planned breaks allow for the health and safety needs of performers
  • Check that venue facilities and equipment provide an environment that is safe and conducive to performance
  • Discuss and negotiate changes to rehearsal arrangements with relevant people as required

  • Identify and implement strategies for developing mastery of technical and musical demands of own parts of selected music
  • Allocate sufficient private practice time to prepare individual performance to the required standard

  • Incorporate relevant advice about own playing as required to advance quality in performance

identify and describe issues and challenges that typically arise in the context of group rehearsals, and ways in which they may be overcome

explain the work health and safety (WHS) principles as they apply to using musical instruments and rehearsing in a range of environments.
